Welcome to Ning!

"The Flat Classroom" - this title comes from the notion advocated by Thomas Friedman that the world is growing increasingly "flat" through technology and globalization.

The Rules

Ning Expectations:

1. Respect: I expect you to be polite, kind, and appropriate at all times. Remember that I, Mrs. Follis, will view all comments.

2. Inclusion: Anyone is welcome to comment or join a discussion as long as he or she is respectful.

3. Safety: Be cautious about revealing private details on web sites. Don't use your full name, first name and last initial (Candace F.) will be sufficient. While this is a password-protected site, it is digital information that anyone could copy and forward. Anything you type into a digital forum may last forever, so respect your own and others' privacy.

4. Decorating your personal space: Please, no gross, immoral, or irreverent photographs. Also, don't put up a background that makes your text hard to read. Communication is a primary purpose of this site, and design should enhance rather than obstruct communication.

5. Formality: The level of usage here is "standard written English"-- used in business, government, and education for everyday work. No texting abbreviations. Use complete sentences and standard spelling.

Anyone who breaks these rules can be banned at the teacher’s discretion. Students who are banned cannot receive credit for the work their peers are doing on the website.

Author Spotlight

"I do not attempt to solve any problems [in my novels]. I know I cannot straighten out with a few pen-strokes what God and men took centuries to mess up. So I tried to deal with life as we actually live it-not as the sociologists imagine it."

The House of Un American Activities

The House of Un American Activities (HUAC) is a very interesting topic because in a way it is kind of goofy. It was a group of people who went around to people’s houses to question them about any suspicious activity going on. This paper is going to explain why the HUAC did this, when it started, what they did, how it relates to the Crucible, and why it reminds me of the Crucible.

HUAC started in 1938… Continue

Problem Solution Essay Topic Blog

For my problem solution essay I chose gun control as my topic. I feel like gun control is an issue that doesnt get the attention that it deserves. Guns can cause a lot of violence and should be restricted more heavily by the government. At the same time guns can used for things such as hunting or sport shooting. There are also many people that are strongly against gun control and many people who strongly support gun control so my paper will help those who are on the fence decide whether or not… Continue
